F-Dock (11:00)
Digital Film on DVD
This short documentary is the first in an ongoing ethnographic study of neighbors living side by side on their sailboats in King Harbor, Los Angeles. This film explores individual conceptions of public and private space and the limitations and possibilities that come with live-aboard lifestyle. Romanticized notions of drifters and sailors are explored and nullified by more realistic motives more in fitting with our current economic state and shifts in American ideals.

London Maps (14:00)
Digital Film on DVD

This short documentary examines the process of orientation and the important roles our surroundings play in our self-development and identity construction. From memories of growing up in a London suburb during WWII, Frank, the film’s central subject, has created a detailed, though dated, map in his mind. The vivid and complex city of his remembrance becomes increasingly ill-matched with the present day landscape and Frank’s visit to his childhood home becomes in inward journey – a journey of every person claiming an association with his/her past.

Chance of Rain (8:16)
Digital Film on DVD
A journey following two surfers from the south of England, James and Jamie, who enter the Isle of Wight Surf Competition despite the location’s famously unpredictable swells. As fate would have it, horrible weather sets in and nothing goes according to plan. This documentary began with an interest to experience a foreign surf culture and honors the spirit and determination of the two men whose passion for the sport is unquestionable. Conversations ensue over the unbeatable feeling of catching the first wave and of better experiences in warmer waters.
